EXAMINATION
The institute’s examinations are normally held twice a year in May and November in many centres in Nigeria.

PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

Objectives:

  • To impact on the students, the basic knowledge of the various aspects of Geography.
  • To create in the students the ability to appreciate the functioning roles of the various aspects of Geography.
  • To inculcate in the student the ability to synthesize the various aspects of Geography towards problem solving.
  • To examine the candidates’ knowledge of this course through a written examination.

Every stage carries a detailed and comprehensive breakdown of all papers. Questions will be drafted from every topic or topics as displayed by the scheme of work(s). Candidates are instructed to do justice to the syllabus as no area will be left untouched at the point of setting question (s) at each level or stage of the examination. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall with any type or brand of handset during the examination. All the examinations will be pen-and-paper, and all questions shall be on a 3-hour paper.

Any application for examination entry received after the closing date will be retained and entered in the next examination.
Confirmation of examination entry is by the examination summons including the examination time-table which is sent out one month before the examination.

The institute’s full examinations comprise of four levels namely:-
Foundation examination
Professional Examination I
Professional Examination II
Professional Examination III
                The holders of the following qualifications are eligible for subject exemptions:-

  • Registered students of the professional bodies set out in 6.1 above on subjects already passed excluding subjects in professional 2 & 3.
  • OND/NCE (Geography Economics or related field) from a recognized institution in Nigeria or elsewhere – from the foundation examinations.
  • NCE/B.Sc/M.Sc/MBA: Geography or related field from a recognized institution in Nigeria or elsewhere from the foundation examination.
  • Ph.D Geography or related field from a recognized institution in Nigeria or elsewhere from foundation examinations and subjects for basics in professional examination level 1 depending on transcripts.

PROCEDURE:
                The exemption form should be completed in full and returned to the institute with the                 following:

  • The appropriate fee:
  • Certified photocopies of the following by the sponsor who must be a member of the institute.
  • Relevant educational credentials
  • Letter of registration with a professional body if applicable.
  • Statement of last examination result.
  • Supporting evidence of practical experience if applicable.
  • Letter of recommendation from sponsor.
